Pack 130 Rules

What are my responsibilities as a Cub Scout Parent?

1.   Have fun with your scout!

2. Purchase your scout’s uniform and scout book appropriate for his/her rank.  (Scouts should have the correct book, shirt, belt, Council patch, Pack number, den or patrol patch, neckerchief, and neckerchief slide.  Ask your den leader or scout shop for details.)

3. Attend den meetings.   There are one or two Den meetings per month.  Parents are required to attend all meetings with their scout.

4. Attend the monthly pack meeting with your scout.  Your child will be recognized with awards and patches at some pack meetings.  You should be there to share in their success!

5. Show your scout you are proud of their achievements in Cub Scouting by promptly attaching their awards to their uniform.  Advancements are a permanent part of their uniform; other patches earned may be worn temporarily on the right pocket.

6. Your scout should arrive at pack and den meetings punctually; please make sure that your scout is uniformed at all Scouting activities.  At den meetings, scouts earn achievements needed for rank advancement.

7. Help your scout earn achievements at home. There is (sometimes) not enough time at Den meetings to cover all requirements.  The scout’s family must do religious requirements and child safety exercises.  Be aware of any achievements your scout is lacking and keep the leader informed about your son's progress.

8. Attend, with your scout, as many Scouting activities as possible.  Scout Fair, camp-outs, field trips, Pinewood Derby, the Blue & Gold Banquet, and picnics are fun experiences you can share with your scout.  Parents accompany the cub scout on all listed activities.  All activities are family-oriented!

9. Assist your scout’s den leader by sharing your interesting hobby with the den, helping to organize a den field trip, or regularly attending den meetings.

10.  Support our pack fundraisers.  Let us know if your company can donate food or money to our pack.  The pack does not maintain a cash surplus; all monies earned by our scouts are used to fund current Pack activities.

We hope you will volunteer as a Cub Scout Leader or a Committee Member.  If you are unable to do so, you will still be expected to volunteer to help in other ways throughout the year.

General Rules

Two-Deep Leadership.

As required by the BSA charter, Pack 130 practices 2-deep leadership.  This rule simply means that no scout can be alone with only one leader/adult (who is not their guardian) at any time.

Uniforms.

Wearing uniforms helps bring us together as a Pack and as Scouts.  Scouts must wear their full uniform (Class A uniform) to all Den and Pack Meetings. Pack 130 T-shirts are worn on camp-outs and other events where appropriate.

Meetings.

A parent for each Cub should attend the Pack and Den meetings.

Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms.

Alcohol and tobacco products may not be used during any Cub Scout event or activity.  Bellaire United Methodist Church is a smoke-free facility.  Firearms are prohibited at all Cub meetings and events.

Camping Specific Rules

Pack 130 must adhere to scouting guidelines when camping.  Among other things, Boy Scouts of America does not allow any youth to sleep or stay in the tent of an adult other than his own parent or guardian.  (Likewise, in dorm-style sleeping arrangements such as on ships, the Boy Scouts of America requires a sheet or visual barrier between youth and adult males in a dorm-style sleeping compartment).

Pack 130 requires a parent to attend a campout with their cub.  Another parent cannot assume responsibility for another cub scout.  Requiring a parent to attend the campout helps ensure compliance with the Boy Scout of America requirements.

The Boy Scouts of America prohibits the use of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances at encampments or any activity involving participants of youth members.  If parents smoke, please do so at a smoking area located away from all participants.

Pack 130 encourages all cubs scouts to leave all electronics or other devices, etc. at home.  Parents may bring cell phones, but request that, if you need to use it, please do so away from the cubs (it’s supposed to be about camping!)

It is not the intent of this section to cover all conceivable rules.  If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to bring them up with your Den or Pack leaders.

If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please contact the Cubmaster or Committee Chair.
